Bailiff eviction ban extended to the end of next month

The Government has announced a further six weeks of protection from bailiff-enforced evictions for renters in England.

The eviction ban, which is due to end today, has been extended to 31 March, meaning renters have had the protection of some kind for over a year.

Housing charity Shelter has warned that tenants can still receive eviction notices and estimate that 445,000 private renting adults in England have fallen behind on the rent or have been served some kind of eviction notice in the past month.

Unlike the ban that ran between March and September 2020, eviction court hearing and order can still take place but landlords will be required to give six months’ notice period and the court will prioritise the most egregious cases.
